REM Rebound

REM rebound is the coolest thing in the world. How cool is going into REM, the dream state faster than normal. The only problem is when we lack sleep REM rebound occurs. REM rebound means exactly what the name is, when we lack sleep, mainly the REM stage, we go directly into REM skipping the other stages. For example, Bob hasn’t slept for over one week. So when he does finally sleep, he will go directly into REM. The interesting thing is why REM, why not stage 4 rebound. There is only speculation about this specific rebound. One of the speculations behind REM rebound is the idea that REM enforces memory. Like if you haven’t slept in a long time, you start to forget things.

  1. What exactly is REM? It sounds like an interesting topic and I would like to learn a lot more about this subject but I hardly understand what it is.

  2. We talked about REM in psychology class and it's very interesting. When you sleep very little you can't reach REM sleep, so after a while of not reaching REM, you just go directly into it and stay there for a long time. This sounds like me every Friday night.

  3. I dont understand REM because isnt it supposed to be the dreaming stage and dont you have to sleep a long period to reach this stage.Because then that doesnt explain why I dont dream in the 7 hours i sleep, then wake up for a minute, then go back to sleep, and in the 5 minutes Im asleep the 2nd time is when I dream.

  4. REM is interesting and so is REM rebound. Thats amazing and perplexing that you would rebound in REM because if I recall correctly its stage IV that you get the most "rest" and also spend the most time. @Guitarist Extraordinaire, just because you go into REM doesn't mean you will remember it.
